From a single mission-critical part to a production program that runs for years — engineered, machined, and inspected in-house in Detroit since 1980.

When failure isn't an option, capability has to be provable. Tolerance Tool & Engineering runs precision CNC and manual machining, tool & die, grinding, and in-house inspection under one roof — the same people who prototype your part hold the tolerances when it goes to full-rate production. The floor

A deep fleet of CNC and manual equipment — hold a tight prototype, then run the production volume behind it without sending your part out the door.

CNC Machining Centers

  • Haas VF-4SS vertical machining center — 4-axis, 50″ × 20″ × 25″ travels.
  • Fadal vertical machining centers — multiple, to 40″ × 20″, plus a 30″ × 60″ long-table machine.

CNC Turning & Turn‑Mill

  • Okuma LB4000 EXII — Y-axis, live tooling, 15″ chuck.
  • Daewoo Puma 240MS — twin-spindle, live tooling; complex parts finished complete in one setup.
  • Mori Seiki SL-20 & SL-25 — to 13.4″ turning diameter × 21″ length.
  • Hwacheon HI-ECO35 — 12″ chuck.

Manual Milling & Boring

  • Herbert DeVlieg horizontal boring mill — 43″ × 72″ table, 4″ spindle.
  • Kearney & Trecker horizontal mills and Cincinnati heavy-duty vertical mills — to 24″ × 54″.

Manual Turning

  • Warner & Swasey turret lathes.
  • LeBlond 15″ × 50″ and Cincinnati 21″ × 72″ engine lathes.

Grinding

  • Surface grinding — to 18″ × 40″.
  • OD / cylindrical grinding — Brown & Sharpe and others, OD/ID to 10″ × 36″.

Sawing & Support

  • DoAll horizontal band saw — 26″ × 78″, hydraulic feed.
  • Cutoff sawing, drilling, tapping, and threading.

Engineering & materials

Precision tooling and engineering support from the same shop that runs your parts — a program doesn't stall waiting on an outside toolmaker.

Tool, Die & Engineering

  • Tool & Die — dies, fixtures, jigs, and gauging built and maintained in-house.
  • Mold & Die Repair — production tooling repaired and returned to the line; urgent turnaround when a line is down.
  • Reverse Engineering — from an existing part or sample to a machinable model, using CMM digitizing and metrology.
  • Solid Modeling & Rapid Prototyping — prove out a part before committing to a production run.
  • Welding — TIG, MIG, gas, and arc in steel, stainless, aluminum, tool steel, copper, and titanium.

Materials

  • We source and machine the right material for the part — including specialty and long-lead bar stock most shops won't carry.
  • Alloy & carbon steels — including 4140 and leaded grades such as 41L40.
  • Stress-proof steel.
  • Stainless steels, all grades — 303 / 304 / 316 / 17-4 and up.
  • Titanium, aluminum, copper, brass, and bronze.
  • Tool steels.

Quality & production

Repeatable precision isn't inspected in at the end — it's built in and verified at every stage.

Inspection & Metrology

  • Mitutoyo CMM — 40″ × 40″ × 24″ capacity.
  • Deltronic DH-214 optical comparator.
  • First-article and in-process inspection; full metrology lab.
  • Tolerances held to ±.0002″ when the print calls for it.
  • Inspection records and material certifications to your program's requirements.

Outside Processes

  • Heat treat, plating, anodizing, and coating are performed by qualified outside suppliers and managed by us — you get a finished, ready-to-use part from a single point of contact.

Prototype to Production

  • We hold long-term programs, not just one-off jobs. Parts we machine have stayed in continuous production for decades — runs from a single prototype to full production lots, on the same routings and the same inspection, bar stock to finished part.
